So long 2003, and welcome 2004! It’s another year to look forward to. It seems that time really flies. January 1, 2003 seems just like yesterday to me. I keep on wondering how a whole year can just come and go without me really noticing. We’ll maybe it’s because I’m working (or at least pretending to, hahaha); I’ll be willing to bet that some people will have an opposite opinion — “Grabe, ang tagal naman bago mag New Year…”
For Filipinos, it’s election year. Another year of political mudslinging. Of course, it’s always been around, but it seems that every politician turns it up a notch during elections. To date, five (not counting the unknown people from the looney bin) presidentiables have already voiced out their intentions and/or have filed ther Certificate of Candidacies. An actor, a former police general with a rubout case hanging over his head, a preacher, and an “honorary woman” are getting ready to fight head on with PGMA.
On one end we have our President who has all the experience — good and bad — necessary to run the government. On the other end, we see an actor — also a high school dropout — with no experience whatsoever. Nothing against FPJ, but do we really need a sequel to Erap? I don’t know if it’s just me, but it’s really scary to see Angara and Sotto hanging around FPJ all the time. Angara is the same person behind Erap! I don’t really care if FPJ hires the best advisers in the country. The thing is, if you don’t understand what your advisers are advising you to do, what’s the point? I you are weighing options they gave you, how do you make a decision?
Somewhere in the middle, we have Lacson. Allegedy well-loved by the FilChi community because of his past experience as a crime fighter when he was PNP Chief. Nothing wrong with that I guess. But the things that’s bothering me is the Kuratong Baleleng case. Sure, they were crimiinals. If they died in a legal shootout, I wouldn’t even shed a tear. But to rub ’em out….that’s another story.
For the other three presidentiables, I’ll save my comments for a later date. Perhaps when they’ve outlined their platforms of government. Although, with PGMA, I’m pretty sure that she’ll just be continuing to highlight her current programs and those programs she has promised in her past SONAs.
We’ll to everyone, Happy New Year! May 2004 be more prosperous than 2003! May our country be blessed with a great president. May our country have less politics — and may all those corrupt officials lose in their respective bids in the elections. May our economy grow further: may stock prices go up to their old levels, and may the peso appreciate.
For the whole world, may all the terrorist leaders like Bin Laden be captured and put to justice. May the leaders of countries producing nukes, biological and chemical weapons finally wake up and realize their stupidity. May terrorists plots be just that; we’ve had enough people die from natural disasters, we don’t need people being killed by terrorists.
